OF RARE
PROJECT and PAPER
Research Paper:
My research revolves around different populations which have a higher incidence of certain Rare Diseases and why this occurs. In addition I am focusing on the benifits of research on rare diseases and how they can contribute to the medical community as a whole.
Thesis:Although the title of “rare” in rare diseases presents the misconception that there is a small population, the study of rare diseases within a specific community can benefit the larger medical world in a positive way.
Project:
For my project I am spotlighting five Rare Diseases in the New England area over the week of February 22nd-26th in order to raise awareness for Rare Diseases around our community.
Monday through Friday at Westerly Middle and High School there will be a Rare Disease themed spirit week. Each day students participate it is recommended, but not required that they donate a dollar.
On the night of the February 26th I am having a Rare Disease Trivia Night at the Westerly Yacht Club. The trivia questions are all from the five Rare Diseasess and general information/statistics about rare iseases as a whole. The night will be informal filled with trivia, patient stories, music and even a raffle.
All proceeds will be dontated to Congenital Hyperinsulinism International and National Organization for Rare Disorders.
